Correct Handicap Allocation in Bowls MatchesThere have been a number of queries of late regarding the correct method for allocating handicap differential in Bowls, with some Bowlers subtracting the differential and then allocating it to the first end of the first bowler on the card. This is incorrect. The correct method is to apply each players handicap to the first end of play for each player (or the aggregate handicap of each pair playing together to the first end of each team). An example of the correct an incorrect methods are shown below: Singles play: Each player allocates handicap to his or her score at the first end.
Pair play: Team pairs handicaps are added together and applied to the first end of play for each team.
Incorrect Method: The difference in handicap is calculated and applied to the first end of player 1.
